About Tracy
My career has been diverse in the areas of information technology, education and mental health. I have greatly enjoyed all of my work and am a great believer in the concept of lifelong learning. I worked in information technology for the Commonwealth Bank for 10 years achieving the role as Project Manager, where I managed the development of several key computer systems. After the commencement of my family, I retrained in education and worked as a TAFE teacher for 10 years culminating in the role of Teacher of Database design and Programming. I commenced working as a Counsellor in 2012 and am currently working primarily as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist in private practice. I have observed over the years that clients who present with anxiety or depression have often experienced Complex Childhood Trauma, as defined by the Blueknot association at https://www.blueknot.org.au/Resources/Information/Understanding-abuse-and-trauma/What-is-childhood-trauma. Although a mental health diagnosis can be helpful in many circumstances, I have a special interest regarding what “happened” to a person that can be causing their symptoms rather that what is “wrong” with them in relation to a diagnosis. I believe that a healthy lifestyle is fundamental to mental health, especially in relation to diet and exercise. I also have an interest in complementary medicine. In my experience I have seen many clients benefit immensely from longer term Psychotherapy (more than the 8-20 sessions available on the GP Mental health Care Plan), especially relating to unconscious memory and internalizations. I have witnessed that this work is life changing for the many clients that I have seen.
I attend regular supervision and I have had the same supervisor since commencing my training and work as a Therapist. My supervisor is a Psychologist/ Psychoanalyst and we have developed a strong and positive working relationship. Since 2015 I also have attended a monthly Balint Group Supervision which is led by a Psychoanalyst.
As a therapist I believe that it is important for me to regularly attend my own personal therapy sessions, as this provides a space for me to consider myself and my needs in relation to the demands of the work that I do.
I love working as a therapist, and I find it a privilege to go on the therapeutic journey with my clients. I find that this work can be life changing for many, as they become set free from their past, and then are able to move forward positively with their lives into a new season.
